Introducing Conditional Questions in Survey Templates

We heard your feedback and are excited to introduce a new survey question type: Conditional Questions! This highly-requested feature allows you to control which survey questions are hidden or visible, and it can be managed directly on the survey template edit page. With this update, GuildQuality members can more precisely customize and tailor their surveys to meet respondent needs and gain better insights.

Setting Up Conditional Questions in Survey Templates

To add conditional questions to a new or existing template, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Guildquality, go to Settings, then Templates.
  2. Duplicate an existing template to convert a selection of pre-existing questions or create a new template entirely.
  3. To create an all-new conditional question, click “Add Question” and toggle the conditional logic option to ‘On.’ To change an existing question to conditional, click the edit icon and toggle the conditional logic option to ‘On.’
  4. From there, create a rule or rules to determine whether the selected question is visible or hidden. See the visual below for an example of what this section looks like.
  5. Finally, click save! You can view which questions have conditional reviews by looking for the atom icon under the question name (see visual #2).

Note about Smart Questions: Conditional Questions are designed to replace Smart Questions. However, if you need a new template with Smart Questions, duplicate a legacy template that uses this feature, and your new template will include the Smart Question option.

How Conditional Questions Work

  • Flexible Conditions: Some conditions may prevent certain questions from being added to surveys, while others will show or hide questions based on respondents’ inputs. This ensures surveys are relevant and streamlined for each respondent, enhancing their overall experience.
  • Impact on Existing Templates: Existing templates will remain unaffected by this change and cannot be adjusted. However, any new templates created will use conditional questions by default.

Example Usage

Initial Question: “Did you have any issues with the window installation?”

New Conditional Follow-up Question: If the respondent answers “Yes,” they might be asked, “Was the installation team professional and courteous throughout the project?” If the respondent answers “No,” this follow-up question will be hidden, keeping the survey concise and relevant to the respondent’s experience.

**You can also create conditional questions based on score (a specific number, a range, greater than/less than, etc.), the existence of a comment, or even custom fields (only ask a certain question to customers with a specific custom filter on their project.**

Benefits of Conditional Questions

  • Greater Customization: Conditional questions offer a robust alternative to our previous Smart Questions and muting logic, providing enhanced flexibility and functionality.
  • Improved Survey Experience: By tailoring questions to respondents’ inputs, surveys become more relevant and engaging.
  • Better Insights: Conditional questions help you gain deeper and more accurate insights by targeting specific responses, leading to more actionable data.

This new feature will significantly enhance the effectiveness of your surveys and improve the respondent experience.
